Clint Capela is 1st Rockets player with 3 straight 20-rebound games since Moses Malone

Clint Capela, Moses Malone

After a relatively slow start to the new season, Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela has definitely been killing it for his squad of late. On Wednesday, the 6-foot-10 center made a bit of history by logging his third straight 20-rebound game — something that has not been achieved by a Rocket in nearly four decades, by no less than Hall of Famer Moses Malone.

Capela had a slow start (by his high standards, of course) to open the new campaign, recording single-digit rebounds in four out of Houston’s first six games, including a four-rebound dud against the Brooklyn Nets on November 1. This started to be a concern for some, with a few folks even saying that the arrival of Russell Westbrook may have somehow had an undesirable effect on Capela’s rebounding prowess.

Well, looks like we can all put that argument to bed now, following Capela’s recent historic run. Right now, the 25-year-old is currently averaging 13.4 points (on 65.0 percent shooting), 12.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.2 blocks through Houston’s first 10 games.

It is worth noting, however, that in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s 102-93 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers, Capela went to the locker room following a collision of heads with JaMychal Green. There were no updates on the injury following the contest, but it was confirmed that he would need to undergo tests for a potential concussion.

It would be a shame if Capela misses time in the midst of his outstanding run, and with the Rockets themselves on a five-game winning streak. Nonetheless, the league is very strict when it comes to head injuries, so if Capela did suffer a concussion, then we should expect the sixth-year man to miss a handful of games.
