Christian Wood agrees to 3-year, $41 million deal with Rockets
Christian Wood has agreed to terms to join the Houston Rockets with a three-year, 41-million deal on Friday. This comes after initial reports claimed that Woods’ camp has not verified the terms, but looks like both parties finally came to an agreement.
The initial deal was for just $27 million and looks like Wood’s camp managed to sway the Rockets to up those numbers.
According to an NBA source a report that forward Christian Wood is close to finalizing a three-year, $27 million deal with the #Rockets is not accurate.

The Rockets emerged as the frontrunners for the 6-foot-10 big’s services even before free agency began. They ultimately got their guy after beating other potential suitors. Houston, who were perennial contenders in recent years, faces uncertainty with the future of their two superstars James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Their frontcourt took a hit when they decided to move Robert Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers for a couple of future draft picks.
Wood’s size and versatility is definitely an upgrade for the Rockets’ frontline, following his breakout year for Detroit last season. The 25-year-old secured a big payday this year by notching 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 56.7 percent from the field, 38.6 from past the arc, and 74.4 percent from the charity stripe.
The Pistons, meanwhile, were already preparing for Woods’ departure since they signed centers Mason Plumlee and Jahlil Okafor right at the beginning of free agency. Detroit also snatched Jerami Grant from the Denver Nuggets.
Wood, meanwhile, is expected to get a starting nod in new head coach Stephen Silas’ rotation devoid of size up front. He can play both the center and power forward positions and would be a great fit for H-Town’s spread-out offense.
