Chris Paul would curse at Mike D’Antoni about Rockets offense bogging down when James Harden came in and played with 2nd unit

Chris Paul has reportedly demanded a trade from the Houston Rockets due to his poor relationship with James Harden, and apparently, his bond with head coach Mike D’Antoni wasn’t very strong, either.

According to Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, Paul would curse at D’Antoni about the offense bogging down when Harden would ask to come in to play with the second unit with Paul heading to the bench.

Goodwill adds that Paul may not be the only Rockets player who is peeved, as he notes that other Houston players have been frustrated with D’Antoni for allowing Harden to have so much freedom on the court.

Of course, Harden had an MVP-caliber season, averaging 36.1 points, 7.5 assists, 6.6 rebounds and two steals over 36.8 minutes per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the floor, 36.8 percent from three-point range and 87.9 percent from the free-throw line.

However, his ball-dominant style seems to have grated on Paul and some of his other teammates, as Harden taking an absurd 24.5 shots per game limited those around him and made the Rockets’ offense one-dimensional.

In Harden’s defense, Houston had a lot of injuries throughout the year, so sometimes, Harden had no choice but to try and put the team on his back, but Harden’s ball dominance also carried over into the playoffs when he attempted 24 field goals per game and made just 41.3 percent of them en route to a second-round exit.

Paul, who was originally acquired by Houston in a sign-and-trade during the summer of 2017, is 34 years old and has two years left on his deal with a player option for the 2021-22 campaign.
