Chris Paul thinks Rockets should give PJ Tucker an extension

The Houston Rockets guaranteed the final year of PJ Tucker’s contract, something former teammate Chris Paul is really happy about.

Tucker will make $7,969,537 next season and enter unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2021. Paul, however, is hoping the Rockets give Tucker an extension before that happens:

“I think the person that I probably learned the most from was PJ, PJ Tucker, who was like my brother, man,” Paul said, via the Houston Chronicle. “He’s so selfless, gives himself up night in and night out. P.J. is like the unsung hero of the NBA, you know what I mean? He’s not going to be on the stat sheet with all this different type stuff.

“Shoutout to P.J., though he just got — I think they guaranteed his last year. He needs an extension. That’s all the man want. The man play every night and can’t get an extension.”

PJ Tucker has appeared in 54 games for the Rockets this season. He’s averaging 7.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 84.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The Rockets are 32-20 on the season, but Chris Paul and the Oklahoma City Thunder have been the bigger story this season. OKC is a surprising 33-22 at the All-Star break, good enough for sixth place in the Western Conference standings,.

Once the playoffs start, the Rockets will go as far as MVPs Russell Westbrook and James Harden can take them. However, Tucker’s defense and corner 3-point shooting will be critical as well.
