Chris Paul says Rockets have gone from being the ‘Bad News Bears’ to ‘one of the best teams’ in the NBA
Chris Paul is encouraged by the progress his Houston Rockets have made since a disjointed start to the season, one in which the team sat in 14th place in the West, only to slowly climb out of that deep hole to sit in a three-way tie for third place.
Following a rousing 107-95 win over the Toronto Raptors, the Rockets are now the hottest team in the league, winners of six straight and not looking back to the standings, but rather plowing through whichever team they have to play next:
“A whole lot of games left; can’t pay attention to it,” said Paul, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “We’ve just got to stay focused on how we’re playing. We’ve been saying that since early in the season since we were, what, 11-14? And we was the Bad News Bears everybody was talking about.
“For us, it’s about how we’re playing. I guess it’s nice to be in a tie for third, but it’s more about how we’re playing.”
Houston is in an enviable spot, peaking at the right time with only 18 games left in the regular season:
“I just think about right now, and right now we feel good,” Paul said. “As long as we’re healthy, we’re going to be one of the best teams in the league.”
The Rockets have dealt with their share of injuries and swaps of some of their G League talent, but somehow they’ve made it work throughout a tumultuous season and now are likely to head into the playoffs with full steam ahead.
