Chris Paul says hamstring injury made him stronger

Chris Paul, Rockets

Rockets guard Chris Paul has suffered his share of injuries at untimely moments, but none more precarious than the hamstring injury that forced him to miss the last two games of the Western Conference Finals while being one game away from the title series.

While it was an eventual gut punch for the Houston Rockets, the dime maestro resorted to using his misfortune as a tool to make him that much stronger.

“It sounds crazy, but unfortunately I’ve had a lot of adversities and challenges and what not and I know it sounds cliche, but it’s only made me stronger,” said Chris Paul.

Paul has perhaps had one of the most what-if careers in modern basketball, as his injuries have taken place at the absolute worst time possible, often followed by an elimination from the playoffs. Asked if he’s bound to have an equal streak of generosity when it comes to his injuries, Paul doesn’t think so.

“No,” he said. “Whatever’s gonna happen is gonna happen. if that is the bad luck that I’ve had, there’s some people who have had it a lot worse luck than I’ve had. It is what it is. Whatever happens, you move on and you go to the next one.”

Despite his injury history, Chris Paul was rewarded with a four-year, $160 million deal this offseason, as ownership has placed its ultimate faith in him as a key cog for the franchise’s title hopes. Barring another unfortunate injury, Paul should prove to be worth the investment over the next few years, as his game has been tailored to thrive even without superior athleticism.
