Chris Paul says Carmelo Anthony and Rockets will work

Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony

While a good amount of people consider Carmelo Anthony to be a shadow of his former self, Houston Rockets star point guard Chris Paul’s belief in his new teammate remains resolute. In fact, Paul has recently lauded his team’s acquisition of Anthony, claiming the newest Rocket will be an important piece in their quest for greatness.

Paul recently sat down with Mark Berman of Fox 26, and the 33-year-old had nothing but good things to say about his good buddy Anthony.

“I’m excited about it,” Paul said, per Ashish Mathur of Amico Hoops. “That’s my brother. I’m not only happy for our team, but I’m happy for him. When you know a guy that well, you’re able to push each other and motivate each other. We both have a common goal, wanting to win a championship.”

Along with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, Paul and Anthony are widely known to be one of the tightest group of friends in the league. James, Wade, and Anthony all came from the 2003 Draft class and have been close friends ever since. Although Paul was drafted two years later, this was no hindrance to him forming an unbreakable bond with this “brotherhood.”

While James and Wade famously teamed up with the Miami Heat a few years back, Paul and Anthony’s alliance in Houston is the only other time any two of them have been on the same team. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons behind Paul’s excitement to have Anthony on board the Rockets.

Anthony had a forgettable outing last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Rockets, likewise, are aiming for an improvement from last year’s Western Conference Finals defeat at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. Both Anthony and the Rockets are hoping this new union will finally lead to achieving their ultimate goal of winning a championship.
