Chris Paul only worried about winning at this point in his career

Chris Paul Rockets

During his introductory press conference in Houston along with GM Daryl Morey and coach Mike D’Antoni, Chris Paul answered questions about joining the Rockets and what his ultimate goal is for the future.

Paul jubilantly expressed his excitement about his new team and found a renewed excitement, according to Ben DuBose of the “Locked on Rockets” podcast.

I haven’t been as excited about basketball in a while. It’s a new start. It’s a fresh start. The timing couldn’t be better. To be here now at this point of my career, it’s all about winning.

During his tenure with the Los Angeles Clippers, Paul failed to lead the team past the conference semifinals, no matter how much talent the team possessed on paper.

There is no reason in playing unless you’re playing to win. Ricky Bobby said it best: ‘If you ain’t first, you’re last.

The nine-time All-Star also made mention that he has been in constant contact with co-star James Harden already looking to make sure the chemistry between the two is not hampered in any way.

When you want to win, you’ll do whatever it takes. I know James has that, I know I have that, and I know the guys in the locker room do

The Rockets style of play may be a bit different than what Paul is used to considering coach D’Antoni loves to play an up-tempo style of basketball and sticks with the philosophy of threes and layups only.

If he can adjust and learn to co-exist with his former Team USA teammate, things may fall in line.

One step at a time, boss. I’m just trying to get through this press conference.

That’s the only way he can find a way to win. One step at a time.
