Chris Paul did not watch the Clippers’ tribute video

Chris Paul, rockets

On Chris Paul’s first visit to the L.A. Clippers’ home since being traded to the Houston Rockets, his former team pulled together a special tribute video in his honor, only to be disregarded by the All-Star point guard.

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Paul said he didn’t even watch the video because he was too busy talking to his coach about “defense.”

When did tribute videos, or lack thereof, become a story? It was awkward with CP3 on Monday night. He claimed he really didn’t watch it and was talking to a coach about defense. Doc Rivers wasn’t a fan: “Don’t get me started …”

This further builds a bridge between the Paul and the Clippers, whom he spent six NBA seasons with. In the report, it appeared that head coach Doc Rivers wasn’t too happy with Paul’s nonchalance. Paul has been critical of the Clippers earlier in the season, criticizing their effort to beat the Warriors, according to an October article by Elliot Teaford of The Orange County Register.

“A lot of people see the wins and losses, but it’s the culture of our team,” Paul said of the Clippers in the clip. “If you aren’t trying to contend with the Warriors, then what are you doing? You know what I mean? … If you aren’t trying to contend with them, then what are you doing?”

After the Rockets guard made these comments, Rivers quickly fired back.

“Listen, when you leave, you should just leave, honestly,” Rivers said. “I don’t think you have to try to burn the house down or justify why you left. That’s what I would say to it. I like our culture.

After what has transpired in Chris Paul’s return to the Staples Center, hopefully, both parties can move forward with their respective ambitions this season.
