Chris Paul ‘catch myself sometimes watching’ James Harden

James Harden, Chris Paul

In a drama-filled offseason, it all began when the Los Angeles Clippers traded Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets. While the Rockets added an All-Star to help James Harden, there are still questions about how the two dominant ballhandlers will be able to play together.

In the 2017-18 NBA season opener against the Golden State Warriors, the Rockets came from behind to defeat the defending champions, 122-121. As Paul finished with four points, eight rebounds, and 11 assists in 33 minutes, he admits he catches himself sometimes watching Harden according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN:

“One of the biggest things I was looking forward to this year is to be able to watch somebody as talented as James. Our whole team is one thing, but James is special, man. I catch myself sometimes watching. I’ve got to get used to it, but he’s unreal.”

With Paul suffering a knee bruise against the Warriors and sitting out against the Sacramento Kings, it will take time for him to adjust to playing with Harden. However, the hope is both players will be able to take off some of the workload from each other and keep fresh for deep playoff runs.

With the new season underway, the Rockets were hoping to land another All-Star in Carmelo Anthony, but he was ultimately traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. As the Rockets did not give up any significant pieces for Paul, they have a roster that is expected to compete against the Warriors.
