Carmelo Anthony tells Knicks he doesn’t want to play for them anymore

Carmelo Anthony

Soon after the start-and-stop trade conversations between the Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks, star forward Carmelo Anthony has tossed the ultimate hand grenade toward the organization, declaring to the front office that he has no interest in being re-incorporated into this team, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said on SportsCenter.

“Carmelo Anthony has made it clear to them, I want to go to Houston, I’m not interested in talking to you about being re-incorporated back into this New York roster,” Wojnarowski said.

“So what they’re trying to do… Steve Mills wouldn’t have ascended to this job in New York if he wasn’t politically savvy, he doesn’t want to get into a public war here with Carmelo Anthony, who they spent over a year trying to run out of town. Houston now is prepared that these talks could run through August, September, into the start of training camp.”

President Steve Mills and new general manager Scott Perry mentioned a potential incorporation of Anthony into the system after two intense weeks of trade talks, which ceased more-so as a formal moratorium of the new front office announcements.

Anthony’s two possible destinations — the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Rockets — have had futile talks with New York.

The Knicks-Rockets talks haven’t brought any fruits to the table, as the Rockets don’t possess any pieces of interest after trading away half of their team in the Chris Paul trade.

The Cavs are strangled by a myriad of long-term roster choices and very little cap space flexibility to take on the big contracts New York hopes to unload.

After ceasing talks, the Knicks will be forced to gear them up again due to Anthony’s discontent — some that can prove ultimately exhausting as these talks could extend past the start of training camp, making the media frenzy in the Big Apple an absolute war zone.
