Carmelo Anthony telling people for seven days he’s joining Houston Rockets

Carmelo Anthony, Rockets

Carmelo Anthony was earlier traded by the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks, but it’s not expected to be his final destination this summer. Anthony is reportedly going to be waived by the Hawks, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. No one knows for sure which uniform Anthony will wear next season, but it’s been revealed by David Aldridge of NBA.com, that the swingman is seemingly preempting his own future by spreading the word that he’s about to join the Houston Rockets.

It should surprise no one that @carmeloanthony has been telling people for more than a week that he’ll ultimately wind up with the Rockets, per league source.

Anthony and the Rockets have expressed interest in each other even before the Thunder shipped the forward to Atlanta. Anthony was even quoted as saying he’s “excited” over the possibility of reuniting with Mike D’Antoni, who once coached the 10-time All-Star when both were still plying their trades in Gotham.

In the event that Carmelo Anthony does indeed sign with Houston, he, together with James Ennis, will be replacing the voids left by the pair of Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute.

Anthony should provide added firepower to a Rockets unit that finished last season second in the league in points with 112.4 per game. During his one-year stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony put together a disappointing stat line of 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He also knocked down just 40.4 percent of his shots from the field.

Houston’s current priority, however, is to come up with an offer that would satisfy restricted free agent center Clint Capela enough to re-sign with the team.
