Carmelo Anthony reacts to getting revenge on Rockets with clutch 3-pointer

Blazers, Carmelo Anthony

Portland Trail Blazers veteran forward Carmelo Anthony had a bit of a revenge game against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, as he hit a dagger trey late in the fourth period to help Portland hold off a surging Rockets side.

Following the game, Anthony was asked about his natural ability in the clutch — something that he has exhibited throughout his 17-year career.

“I don’t think you lose that. You have it, you have it,” Carmelo Anthony said, via Mark Medina of USA TODAY. “It’s something that you want to do and have to be willing to be put in those situations, enjoy those moments, take those shots and believe you can make those shots. Making those shots, not in an arrogant way, is something I’ve always enjoyed. I always enjoy that moment. My teammates believe in me to get me the ball in those moments. All I have to do is deliver.”

To be fair to Anthony, he refused to get into the revenge narrative despite the fact that it was actually the Rockets who pretty much pulled the plug on his season last term after just 10 games played with the team. What ensued was the most tumultuous time in Melo’s career, which actually makes it amazing to think about how he has emerged as a key player for Portland this season.

At the moment, the Blazers are still fighting for dear life in the West, as they currently sit a game and a half outside the playoffs picture in the conference. They have an extra weapon with Melo on board, though, so their campaign is anything but done at this point.
