Carmelo Anthony is confident a deal can get done with the Rockets

Carmelo Anthony

In the last several months, there has been an ongoing saga between the New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony concerning his long-term future with the team.

However, it now appears that there may finally be some light at the end of the tunnel as ESPN’s Ian Begley is reporting that the 10-time All-Star is confident a trade can be worked out to send him to the Houston Rockets to be paired up with close friend Chris Paul and James Harden.

“I’m told that Carmelo feels pretty confident at this point that a deal will get worked out to Houston but the teams to date are nowhere near the finish because it’s so tough for the Knicks and Rockets to get a deal together one-to-one. So it looks like there is going to have to be a third team involved. Probably Ryan Anderson is going to have to be moved on to that third team for this deal to happen. I think everyone involved wants it to happen, it’s just a matter of putting a deal together that the Knicks are amendable to and that the Rockets are amendable too.”

This falls in line with recent reports that Anthony is willing to waive his no-trade clause in any potential deal to the Rockets. It would put him on a team that could potentially become a contender in the Western Conference and compete for an NBA title.

There are a few stumbling blocks that could be in the way as the Rockets don’t currently possess many attractive trade assets to make a deal work. The inclusion of a third team would help tremendously in getting something worked out with Ryan Anderson, who has three years left on his deal worth about $61 million, likely being a big part of any trade scenario.

If these two teams are able to find a third team willing to jump into the conversation, things could quickly be put in motion to finally get Anthony out of his toxic situation in New York.
