Breaking: Kevin Durant out tonight vs. Rockets

Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant will not play against the Houston Rockets due to a calf strain, ESPN’s Chris Haynes reports.

Durant picked up the injury during the first quarter of the Warriors’ 125-122 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. However, he still played 38 minutes and finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and four blocks.

This will be the sixth game Durant will miss this season. The Warriors have gone 4-1 in the first five games without him. Omri Casspi has started the last four games Durant had missed, but he and Andre Iguodala missed the Mavs game and their status against the Rockets is still unknown.

Durant’s absence will help even the score for the Rockets, who will be without MVP candidate James Harden due to a hamstring strain.

However, the Warriors will have three other All-Stars to call upon, as well as another MVP-caliber star in Stephen Curry to lead the team in Houston. Curry is averaging 35 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists while shooting 67 percent from the field and 16-of-26 from beyond the arc in his first two games back from a sprained ankle.

The Warriors will be out to avenge their 122-121 loss at home to Houston during the season opener.
