Brad Stevens addresses Rockets’ style, small-ball lineup

Brad Stevens, Rockets

Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens might have his work cut out for him as his team faces off against a small-ball Houston Rockets squad on Tuesday.

“They’ve done that a lot ..The uniqueness of it is they’re going to be doing it for 48 min a game. They’re special at switching..When teams start staring at the switching it really hurts you..They’ve got a bunch guys that look linebackers,” Stevens said per Mark Berman of Fox 26.

The recent small-ball lineup for the Rockets came to fruition when the team traded away starting center Clint Capela to the Atlanta Hawks in a four-team deal at the NBA trade deadline.

“A lot of teams go small late. The difference is they’ve really committed to it for the meat of the game-When I was coaching at Butler our chance was not to be the same as everybody-The difference is they have the best players in the world doing it,” Stevens added.

In their first game without Capela, the Rockets put out a starting lineup of Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Eric Gordon, Danuel House and P.J. Tucker.

However, since the trade, Houston is 3-0 with wins over the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz.

As for the Celtics, the team has won seven straight games and 10 of their last 11. The current win streak has vaulted Boston as solidly in the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 37-15.

With Celtics starting center Daniel Theis coming in at just 6-foot-8, 215 pounds, Boston, like Houston, certainly isn’t the biggest team in the league.
