Blazers’ Carmelo Anthony admits Chris Paul moved on from Rockets departure much faster than he did

Portland Trail Blazers star Carmelo Anthony warned Chris Paul to keep his eyes peeled for the Houston Rockets management after he was ousted and exiled by the front office after only 10 games, a move that blindsided him and the rest of the team.

Fast forward a few months down the road and Paul was getting traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a place he was promised he wouldn’t end up in days before by general manager Daryl Morey. However, Paul seems to have moved on from that much faster than Anthony did after his future was placed in limbo.

“No, he didn’t say I was right,” Anthony said about his prior warning to Paul, according to ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “He was in Vegas when all of that happened, so we was talking. And when I talked to him, he was like, ‘Man, look, I understand it. It’s messed up, but I understand it.’ And for me, I’m like, ‘Yo, it took me months to kind of, like, get past that.’ My pride was hit. My ego was hit. I had to really get past that. To a point where it was like, ‘Man, Chris, is you good?’ I wanted to make sure he was good. So he told me he was good, and that was that.”

It might have been easier for Paul to accept his situation since he is still owed $124.1 million for the next three seasons, including a $44.2 million player option for his 2021-22 season. Melo was waived by the Chicago Bulls before his $2.5 million contract for the veteran’s minimum became fully guaranteed, leaving his future in the league in question.

Anthony never had that same type of security, especially after the optics of his departure left a stench with his name — which only put his future in the league in potential peril.
