At least 1 fan wants Carmelo Anthony to come to Spurs

Carmelo Anthony, Spurs

The Houston Rockets have parted ways with Carmelo Anthony, leaving the 10-time All-Star with no team at the moment. Many believe this could be the end of Melo’s Hall of Fame NBA career, but if one fan in San Antonio has his way, Anthony will join the Spurs soon.

A Spurs fan on Reddit believes Carmelo Anthony should sign with San Antonio. Here’s his reasoning behind the bold claim:

We have agreed to not play defense and love mid-range jumpers. We also aren’t that concerned with ball movement as standing around and watching ISO is so much cooler. He would fit right in and I’m sure playing for Pop will do wonders for him.

Not sure if this fan is being serious, but if he is, it’s very doubtful the rest of Spurs Nation will agree with him.

Carmelo Anthony hasn’t been a productive or efficient player the last few seasons. His lone year with the Oklahoma City Thunder was a disappointment, and his 10-game test run with the Rockets was a disaster.

The Spurs’ offensive system has never been predicated on iso-ball. The ball rarely sticks in San Antonio. Plus the team already has two high-volume scorers in big man LaMarcus Aldridge and small forward DeMar DeRozan. There really isn’t another reason to add a third one, especially Anthony, who isn’t the player he used to be.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is one of the best basketball minds in NBA history. Maybe he could figure out a way to get Carmelo Anthony to be effective and efficient again. It’s just too big of a risk to take at this point.
