Andrew Bogut reacts to Rockets GM Daryl Morey’s controversial tweet

Longtime NBA center Andrew Bogut took to Twitter to react to the situation regarding Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey and a deleted tweet in support of Hong Kong protestors.

Morey had sent a tweet on Friday night that stated “Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong” in reference to the labor protests that have waged for months.

The since-deleted tweet was decried by Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, who followed up on social media by saying that Morey did not speak for the team and that Houston was strictly non-partisan.

However, the saga has taken on a life of its own. The Chinese Basketball Association cut ties with the Rockets on Sunday, and there is some speculation that Morey’s job status may be in question.

Bogut’s comments come in the aftermath of his own social media scandal in which he seemed to target Chinese swimmer Sun Yang in the days leading up to the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

The Boomers played Canada in their opening World Cup game at the Dongguan Basketball Centre where Bogut’s every touch of the ball was booed by local fans, likely because of his recent comments about Chinese swimmer Sun Yang.

Bogut waded into the spat between fellow Australian Mack Horton and Sun at the world championships in South Korea last month, tweeting that “Swimmers who medal v Sun Yang should break the podium with hammers.”
