Agent denies James Nunnally is heading back to Italy after Rockets terminated 10-day contract

James Nunnally, Rockets

The Houston Rockets waived forward James Nunnally on Monday, terminating the 10-day contract he signed with the team on Jan. 16. A report then surfaced on Monday morning that Nunnally was heading back to Italy, but his agent, Bill Neff, has denied it:

“He has not decided his future yet,” said Neff, according to Sportando. “Milano and other four teams made us an offer before he went to Houston but after that, they have not contacted us.”

Nunnally last played in Italy back during the 2015-16 campaign, when he spent time with Sidigas Avellino.

Nunnally played in two games for the Rockets before being waived, scoring nine points in 38 minutes of action while making just three of his 13 field goal attempts, with all three of his makes and 12 of his attempts coming from 3-point range.

Houston was hoping to keep Nunnally by finding a trade for Carmelo Anthony to open a roster spot for Kenneth Faried. The Rockets did agree to trade Anthony to the Chicago Bulls, but the deal didn’t go through in time for Nunnally’s 10-day deal to be saved.

The 28-year-old actually began the year with the Minnesota Timberwolves, appearing in 13 contests and averaging 2.1 points over 4.9 minutes per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from long distance before being waived earlier in the month.

Nunnally, who played his collegiate basketball at UC Santa Barbara, went undrafted but signed with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent in September 2013. He was waived a month later and then landed with the Atlanta Hawks, playing in four games and registering 4.5 points per game before making his way to the Philadelphia 76ers for nine contests, recording 2.9 points a night.

He was then out of the NBA for four seasons, playing overseas before finally making his return this year.
