After heated exchange, James Harden hits dagger against Lakers

James Harden

Houston Rockets reigning MVP James Harden closed out the heated contest between his Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers in true James harden fashion.

Following an unsightly incident involving several Rockets and Lakers players that escalated to punches being exchanged, Harden hit a dagger trey that effectively handed his team its first win of the new campaign.

Harden was able to keep his cool throughout the violent episode and was able to stay on the court to close out the tightly-contested matchup. With a little over a minute to go in the fourth and final frame, Harden hit a typical step-back trey in front of Lakers guard Lonzo Ball. The shot gave the Rockets a seven-point advantage, and ended the hopes of a Lakers comeback on the evening.

Behind Harden’s heroics, the Rockets notched their first win of the new season. This follows their opening night defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. The icing on the cake was Harden and co. were able to foil the home debut of new Lakers star LeBron James, as they handed their Western Conference rivals their second loss of the new campaign.

Harden was in MVP-form on the evening dropping a cool 36 points on 10-of-19 shooting, five three-pointers, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, a block, and six turnovers.

The Rockets play again on Sunday in Staples Center against the Los Angeles Clippers. Expect Harden to build on this outstanding performance.
